レコチョク: Getting Your Fill Of Jpop

Apple Music is a great deal for listening to music no doubt about that. But the downfall of really any music service depending on the country you’re signed up with. For example, I have Apple Music a subscription with a Canadian ID. While the music selection for Japanese and Korean music is getting better, there is always a better selection of music and ringtones on the Japanese store. But the annoying part with that is that sometimes you just have the need for multiple Apple ID’s.

Like when I was living in Taiwan, I had a Canadian iTunes account as well as a Taiwanese account. But when you switch between Apple ID’s on a single device you really start to deal with a lot of problems with your content. When you switch Apple has the whole lock for 90 days, and if you happen to sync your device then the content from the inactive device gets removed and you can’t redownload that content since your device is associated with another Apple ID, it’s just annoying as f.

I Wanna Listen to music that on the Apple Japan Store

So my solution for still getting the latest releases is using Recochoku. You can you your credit card if you use a VPN with a Japanese server, and then paired with Apple Music or iTunes Match you can then use iCloud to upload these files to iTunes and they will be available to download from your iCloud music without having to switch between multiple Apple ID’s.

It actually might be too much of a workaround for some but for me it’s worked fine. It’s the same as if you buy a CD and then copy it to your iTunes and then download it from your iCloud music to your device. It’s actually annoying that Apple continues to do the whole 90 day lock thing and you have to do all these things just to get content from other countries but to me at least, it’s a better alternative then having to use multiple Apple ID’s just to get a song or a ringtone from a different countries Apple store, purchasing iTunes cards for like way over what they’re worth in JPY from sites designed to sell you these cards at more then what they’re worth, like that’s so messy and annoying and hopefully Apple is going to make some changes with this in the future. For now I’ll just stick with Recochoku for purchasing the music and then just syncing it with iTunes Match, which btw comes free with an Apple Music subscription so don’t purchase it twice lol.
So I realize the whole domain is in Japanese and maybe you don’t understand how to use it, and that’s okay. I’m going to create a how-to as well for Recochoku over the next week or so, it’s actually quite easy and is a much better alternative for music then fooling around with buying iTunes cards and stuff and actually works out to save you more $$$ in the end.

THE WORKAROUND

• You can use your credit card on Recochoku.
• You’re going to have to use a VPN with a server located in Japan, otherwise Recohoku will block you purchasing the music because your located outside of Japan. You can use ProtonVPN and their free servers for this. The VPN only has to be on for purchase. You can re-download your music at any time not being on any kind of VPN.
• This actually works out the best. You can download some albums in FLAC format as well for Hi-Res listening. iPhone XS models now support FLAC listening as well.
